Job Cost Tracking & Logs | FieldCamp

Track miles, expenses, labor costs, and profitability for every job and visit in FieldCamp with the two-tier job logs system and custom log templates.

Job Logs are FieldCamp's built-in cost tracking system. They capture every dollar spent and earned across your field operations — travel, labor, materials, and revenue — so you can see profitability at both the job level and the individual visit level.

Check Costs with the Command Centre

Ask the Command Centre for instant cost insights:

  • "What's the profit on the Smith Residence insulation job?"
  • "Show me total labor costs for this week's completed jobs"
  • "Which jobs have the highest expenses this month?"

See AI Skills for more examples.

Two-Tier Log Architecture

Accessing Job Logs

Job-Level Logs

managing field expenses

  1. Navigate to Jobs from the main menu
  2. Click on a job to open Job Details
  3. Click the Logs tab

The job-level log shows a summary of all expenses, income, and profit for the full job duration.

Visit-Level Logs

visit level expenses

  1. Open a job and click the Visits tab
  2. Select a specific visit
  3. Click the Logs tab within the visit

Each visit maintains independent financial tracking while contributing to the overall job profitability.

Editing Logs

  1. Open the Logs tab in a job or visit
  2. Click on the field you want to update (miles cost, labor cost, expenses, etc.)
  3. Enter the new value
  4. Click Save

You can set default log values during job creation — these defaults (miles, expenses, labor cost, personal hours) apply to every visit and can be adjusted afterward.

For businesses with specialized tracking needs, FieldCamp supports custom log templates that let you define additional fields beyond the defaults.

Using Logs for Profitability

Job Logs feed directly into FieldCamp Analytics, giving you:

  • Per-job profit margins — see which job types are most profitable
  • Technician efficiency — compare labor hours and costs across team members
  • Travel cost trends — identify routes and areas with high mileage costs
  • Expense outliers — spot visits where material costs are unusually high
  • Seasonal patterns — track how costs change throughout the year
