Line-item calculators and surcharges | FieldCamp
Turn on FieldCamp line-item calculators for pitch factor, area and spray-foam depth, set company surcharges and mark up, and configure product coverages.
Calculators let a technician or estimator enter a measurement on a line item and have FieldCamp work out the quantity — roof area from a footprint and pitch, square feet from length by width, or sets of foam from area and depth. Company Surcharges & Mark Up then apply the same pricing rules to every line.
Before you begin
- You need an administrator role to change either setting.
- Calculators and surcharges are configured once, in Settings > Pipeline Configuration > Products & Services > Line Items, and apply to every line-item surface.
- The spray-foam calculator reads coverage values from the product record, so set those up before your estimators rely on it.
Turn calculators on
- Open Settings > Pipeline Configuration.
- Select Products & Services, then the Line Items tab.
- Under Line-item calculators, enable the calculators you want:
| Calculator | What it does |
|---|---|
| Pitch Factor Calculator | Converts a flat footprint into sloped area using the roof pitch, entered as X/12 |
| Quantity Calculator (Length × Width) | Multiplies length by width to give square feet |
| Spray Foam Depth Calculator | Converts area and depth into board feet, then into sets of material, using the product's coverage |
- Select Save columns.
Each calculator shows a live preview of its own arithmetic before it is applied — for example 400 sq ft × 1.15 pitch factor (6/12) → 460 sq ft sloped — and Apply writes the result into the line's quantity and unit.
Enabling the Spray Foam Depth Calculator also reveals the Spray Foam attributes — coverages and conversions — on the product record.
Set surcharges and mark up
Still on the Line Items tab, the Surcharges & Mark Up card holds company-wide pricing applied to every line item:
| Field | What it applies to |
|---|---|
| Mark Up / Margin | The margin used in coverage pricing |
| Fuel Surcharge | Material and labor |
| Supply Surcharge | Material |
| Labor Surcharge | Labor |
| Tax Rate | The rate used alongside the calculated price |
Leave a field blank to treat it as zero.
Configure a product's coverages
Coverage values live on the product, because they differ per material.
- Open Products & Services and select the product.
- Open the Coverages section.
- Add a row per depth with:
- Depth
- Difficulty — for example
Crawlspace - R-Value
- BF / set — board feet per set
- Labor $/ft²
- Mark one row as the Default.
- Save the product.
The calculator then works out board feet from area and depth, divides by board feet per set, and shows the achieved R-value alongside the material estimate. If the product has no coverage configured, the calculator says so instead of guessing.
Configure conversion rates
Conversion Rates on the same product handle unit conversions — for example 100 Gallons to 1 Set. Enter the Rate, the From unit and the To unit, then add more rows as needed.
Conversions are what let a job line's quantity convert into the unit your stock is counted in. The Stock unit field on the product names that unit; it is set when the product is created and locked afterwards so existing on-hand quantities are never re-labelled.
