Updated this week

FieldCamp makes it easy to download client data with just a couple of clicks.

Quick Export

To export your clients:

  1. Go to the Clients page

  2. Make sure you're viewing the data you want to export (set up filters if needed)

  3. Click the Import / Export button in the toolbar

  4. Select Export View as Excel (for .xlsx) or Export View as CSV (for .csv)

  5. Your file downloads automatically to your device

Note: You need the Export permission for Clients to see the Import / Export button. If you don't see it, contact your admin to update your role.

Tip: The export only includes clients matching your current filters. Set up filters first to export exactly the clients you need.

What Gets Exported

Note: Your export only includes clients you have permission to view. If your role is set to "View Assigned," you will only export your assigned clients. Admins export all clients.

Columns Exported

Your export includes all the columns you currently have visible in your table. This means:

  • If you hide a column, it won't be in the export

  • If you add a column, it will be included

  • To export specific columns, first customize your table columns to show what you want

Rows Exported

The export includes:

  • All clients shown in your current view

  • Only clients matching your active filters

  • If no filters are active, all your clients are exported

  • Clients are sorted according to your current sort settings

Data Included

Your exported file contains all the standard client information and custom properties. Here are the fields and their exact column headers in the export:

Export Formats

FieldCamp supports two export formats:

  • Excel (.xlsx) — Best for analysis in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, or LibreOffice. Select Export View as Excel from the dropdown.

  • CSV (.csv) — Best for importing into other tools, CRMs, or mail merge systems. Select Export View as CSV from the dropdown.

Both formats contain the same data — the only difference is the file format. The exported file is named with a timestamp so you can keep multiple exports organized by date.

Filtering Before Export

You can export different segments of your client base by using filters:

Example Exports

  • Export only Active Clients: Filter by Stage = "Active Client", then export

  • Export specific location: Filter by City = "New York", then export

  • Export recent signups: Filter by Created Date = "This Month", then export

  • Export by assigned team member: Filter by Assigned To = specific person, then export

See the Filtering, Sorting & Grouping Clients article to learn how to set up filters.

Customizing Columns Before Export

To export only certain columns:

  1. In the Clients table, click the column settings

  2. Hide any columns you don't want in the export

  3. Show only the columns you want to export

  4. Click Import / Export and select your preferred format

  5. Your exported file contains only the visible columns

Tip: Create a custom view with your preferred columns, filters, and sorts, then export from that view. It's faster than customizing every time.

Using Exported Data

Common uses for exported client data:

  • Backup: Keep a copy of your client database for record-keeping

  • Analysis: Use Excel's tools to analyze trends, create charts, and generate reports

  • Sharing: Send client lists to team members, accountants, or partners

  • Mailmerge: Use the data to create personalized letters or emails

  • Integration: Import the data into other business systems if needed

  • Reporting: Create custom reports for your business

Category-Specific Exports

Some views in FieldCamp let you export specific categories of clients:

  • Leads category — export only clients at the lead stage

  • Pipeline category — export clients in active pipeline stages

  • Clients category — export all established clients

The export respects whichever view or category you're currently viewing.

What's NOT Included in Export

The export file contains client contact information and properties, but does NOT include:

  • Detailed interaction history

  • Email threads

  • Job records or estimates

  • Invoice details

  • Internal notes or comments

If you need to export this detailed information, contact support for custom export options.

Troubleshooting Exports

If the Import / Export button is not visible:

  • Your role may not have the Export permission — contact your admin

  • Make sure you have at least one client in your view

  • Try removing filters to see if any clients are available

  • Refresh the page and try again

If the file doesn't download:

  • Check your browser's download settings

  • Make sure your browser allows automatic downloads

  • Try exporting from a different browser

If Excel shows a warning about the file format:

  • This is normal for .xlsx files

  • Click "Enable" or "Open" to proceed

  • The file is safe

Best Practices for Exporting

  • Use descriptive file naming conventions (save as "Q1_Active_Clients.xlsx" instead of just the default name)

  • Export regularly for backup purposes

  • Remove sensitive information if sharing the file

  • Use filters to export only the data you need (smaller files are easier to work with)

  • Store exports securely if they contain sensitive information

Re-Importing Exported Data

You can use an exported Excel or CSV file to re-import clients if needed:

  1. Use the exported file as a template for importing into another FieldCamp account

  2. Or modify the export and re-import to update multiple clients at once

  3. See the Importing Clients (CSV / Excel) article for import instructions

FAQ's

How do I export only specific clients from FieldCamp?

Go to the Clients page and apply filters to narrow down to the clients you want (e.g., Stage = "Active Client" or City = "New York"). Then click the Import / Export button in the toolbar and select either "Export View as CSV" or "Export View as Excel." The export will only include clients matching your current filters.

Can I export client data as a CSV file in FieldCamp?

Yes. Click the Import / Export button on the Clients page and select "Export View as CSV." The file downloads automatically and can be opened in any spreadsheet program or text editor.

What columns are included in a FieldCamp client export?

The export includes all columns currently visible in your Clients table — including First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone, Company, Client Type, Primary Address, Billing Address, Business Address, Website, Tax Number, Stage, and any custom properties you've created. Hide or show columns before exporting to control exactly what's included.

How do I re-import exported client data into FieldCamp?

You can use an exported Excel or CSV file as a template for re-importing. Click Import / Export → Import on the Clients page, upload your file, and map the columns. See the Importing Clients (CSV / Excel) article for full instructions.
